The Lake Oswego H.S. Men’s Lacrosse Program pursues excellence on and off the field through the three pillars:


These three foundational values guide the promise of the program, which is to provide its student-athletes with the most compelling and enriching experience in all of high school athletics, through academics, competition, community service and travel.   

The program aims to immerse its players in situations that enhance their student athlete experience to help them become the people, students, citizens and teammates they aspire to be. 



Lake Oswego H.S. Men’s Lacrosse Program would like to introduce our current coaches:


Rick Gruen - Head Coach

Coach Rick Gruen has been around lacrosse all his life. A former east coaster, Rick grew up playing youth and high school lacrosse in the suburbs of Philadelphia at Lower Merion High School. In college, Coach Gruen played at Penn State for a season before transferring to the University of Wyoming where he helped start the Cowboy lacrosse program and then played at Colorado State while in graduate school.  

After college, Rick turned his attention to coaching and has coached at the youth, high school and college levels over the years in Colorado, California and Oregon.  

Coach Gruen came to Lake Oswego High School in 2013 and coached the JV teams before became Head Coach in 2015. His son Nate played for LO and graduated in 2014.  

In his 'spare' time, Coach Gruen works for Clackamas County and manages the County's Parks and Forest Division. Coach Gruen who resides in LO is assisted by his wife Jodi, along with their 4 children, 3 young granddaughters and dog Middie.

Mike Marcott - Associate Head Coach

Michael Marcott joined the Lake Oswego High School Lacrosse coaching staff as LO’s Co-Coordinator for offense and defense and solidifies Coach Gruen’s coaching staff for the 2018 season.

Coach Marcott's lacrosse career has included playing locally for Lincoln High School's multi-year state championship teams. He was a four-year varsity starter earning extensive recognition including being named a three-time All-State selection, a two-time US Lacrosse All-American, and an Adrenaline All-American.   

Coach Marcott’s played collegiately at the University of Denver program from 2012 to 2015 and was a member of the University of Denver’s 1st NCAA Division I National Championship team in 2015.  He finished his final year of eligibility at the University of Oregon in 2016, where he led the Ducks in assists and was ranked 3rd in goals and points, and was selected to the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association’s First Team All-Conference as an Attackman, and a MCLA D1 Honorable Mention All-American.  

Coach Marcott’s coaching career has included coaching at the club lacrosse level with Rhino and 3D Lacrosse, as well serving as Assistant Coach and Offensive Coordinator at the University of Oregon in 2016.

Mike Ferber - JV Head Coach 

Coach Michael Ferber is joining the Lake Oswego Lacrosse coaching staff this Spring, and we are excited to bring his coaching experience as we approach the 2018 Spring season.  Coach Ferber began his lacrosse playing career for Linfield College in the early 90’s after being recruited out of high school as a multi-sport athlete, for both football and baseball.  His love for lacrosse began his freshman year at Linfield and ended by capping his senior season as a team captain and Linfield Lacrosse Award winner, while helping the Wildcats to a 12-1 record.  

Michael began his high school coaching career in 2014 as a full-time Varsity Defensive Coordinator for the Camas High School Lacrosse program.  In his first two seasons, he helped Camas achieve back-to-back winning seasons with a goal against average of 8.3 and 7.6 respectively.  Additionally, he also coached back-to-back 1st Team All-Central South Defenseman nominees at Camas.  In 2016, he stepped down to a part-time Defensive Coordinator role in order to coach is son at the 5/6 grade level.  In the Spring of 2017, Coach Ferber returned to the high school ranks on a full-time basis to become the Varsity Head Coach for the Camas Lacrosse Club leading the team to an 11-7 record and a State Playoff berth for the Papermakers.  In 2017, coaching club lacrosse in the off-season, his team was one of only six teams in the State of Washington to score 200 goals.  

Michael currently holds a US Lacrosse Level 3 Coaching Certification and he is excited to share his knowledge and passion of the game with the Lake Oswego Lacrosse Community.
